blogging about the week

Over the week we looked and studied about protein synthesis. Then we looked at the books and did a reading on the protein synthesis. We also had started to do a project about one of these four options. Photo synthesis, protein synthesis, respiration, and fermentation.
In the project we have to explain how each of the work. Anyway back to the books. We had recapped what parts of a cell do what like the mitochondria helps to respirate and cytoplasim holds everything together. Also we checked what cells were prokaryotic and eukaryotic. Then after the readings we started to work on our projects.

blog 12/7/09

What we did over the week was we talked about how and what the structures of a DNA molcule looked like. It had two double helixs with rungs inbetween. The rungs were different colors in the examples that he had showed us and we havent quite figured out why. For the homework we had to decode a bunch of numbers aand the message was
"DNA stores info just like computers''
Also with the experiment we did today it had involed the message with the homeork. Turns out that we in a way stored the directions in our heads then used it to make somthing.

photosynthesis

Over the past week we have learned the cycle of photo synthesis. It needs sun light, water, and carbon dioxide. In return it gives us oxygen and glucose otherwise known as sugar. Then we took a spinach leaf and left it in a tube with water and and put next to a light. there was no growth but there was evidence of carbon dioxide because we took a device that detected how much carbon dioxide. Then we finished up with a mini experiment using legos and made a replica of what an h2o cell is along with co2 and C6h12o6 replicas.

Microscopes

In the past week, we wrote up directions and predictions about what would happen when we look under a micro scope at the pond water. The we put that aside and took samples of the things we received and rubbed it on the agar and waited over night. The we put that aside and came back to the pond water under the microscope and did the experiment.
We saw lots of bacteria under the microscope and put drawings or sketches of it in our note books. Then we had to research it and found out what some organisms were. After that we took it slow and kept looking under the microscopes to see what else we could find.

Bacteria Studies

In science we had done experiments to test what bacteria is on what surfaces. In my group we tested The rim of a toilet bowl and the ceiling. in our studies we saw that there was nearly 90 bacteria colonies for the rim of the toilet bowl. For the ceiling we found only two or three colonies. So there for the more dirty places in the bathroom.
Then we were going to test the lake water, the chicken, the blood, and whatever other objects we received from the Truman school. I am predicting that We find most of the Bacteria in the chicken and the lake water because most people who got sick were either at the lake or at the Cheap Chicken fast food restaurant.
